How could we best start the new year 2013 by a live Hash in the Bois de Vincennes….
Despite hangover , slurry speech, or pretending flu syndrome ,a group of hashers turned up without knowing Bois de Vincennes can be a dangerous area.
Remember the decomposed leg and two truncated bodies found by joggers last June !
But hashers are brave and could not avoid this place of pilgrimage, not the 14th century Sainte Chapelle , bloody fools, but the 800th Paris Hash house harriers run late February
Two virgins Sarah from UK and Greg from Paris, 3 visitors Sitting Pretty from Ivory Coast, Just Sandra from Toronto and Just Connor from Ireland joined the group of Paris and Sans Clue regular hashers.
The Anarchist turned up at 2.15 with the only excuse he got lost trying to find the big circle beer stop from 800th and had to drop the beer somewhere in the forest, hoping he could find it again in the live trail
Instructions were duly given to the virgins and visitors , especially for this rare occasion of a live run. Slack Mac volunteered to co hare but declined the Hare invitation to carry the 10k of flour back pack . Anyway this is part of the challenge and a good opportunity to eliminate the superfluous calories from New Year’s eve celebration.
And off we went with 10 mn advance and carefully laid the trail across the Château de Vincennes for a first checkpoint to slow down the hounds chasing us. We then escaped in the woods towards Lac de Saint Mande and could not resist to lay a long long check back on the opposite side of the good trail.
In the confusion I nearly lost my co-hare who was very consciously double marking the flour and meticulously laying several false trails at each check point. That was enough for the hash pack to stay at a fair distance from us, from times to times their On On shoutings were echoing in the forest.
The two hares took a second challenge for the last part of a run with 5mn only advance but that was enough to fool the pack . We nearly got lost after a few change of directions but happily we saw the dungeon of the Château in the opposite direction and found our way back and had the time to set the the table for the chasing fellows !
