So this week’s hash was a totally different experience from normal from start to finish… (what is normal though when it comes to hashing one could ask!??!). Starting at the 11e Mairie, a motley collection of runners, wedding guests and wedding guests who run, gathered to celebrate the PACS of MaBouche and Crappy Strappy. The ladies outdid themselves and both looked stunning. MaBouche proved she could not only carry off some pretty fancy high heels, but also walk in them! And both both proved they can actually leave the house without hats, though they did compensate with matching “fascinators’.
Following a lovely ceremony those that were purely wedding guests headed straight to the bar, and the hard core hashers (after a quick change from dresses into shorts) headed off on trail. Our hares, Cock in a Box and Petit WeeWee seemed to forget that the entire point of the run was to get to the bar to carry on with the wedding celebrations and this hasher would estimate there must have been at least 299 check points on route!! It was definitely a run with a difference with a mobile beer meister (Petit WeeWee+scooter) who kept appearing at random spots along the way, almost in a rather stalker-like fashion one might add. The run took in a couple of lovely parks, including a hash view over a bit of a misty and wet Paris, and a slightly subdued trail (well as subdued as hashers can be) through Pere Lachaise. The respect for the cemetery only went so far….. the running was reduced to walking, voices were lowered, but our hares did organise a rather dubious 2nd beer stop amongst the gravestones.
As we finally made it back towards the bar, the rain set in so the circle was abandoned and a bunch of soaking wet hashers turned up at the Bubble Bar ravenous and ready to drink. At this point there was a bit of confusion as some were lost on route as the run passed the Mairie again and Speedy sounded the horn and certain hashers were pulled in that direction to discover those who had missed the start of the run and who were sitting there desperately awaiting the return of the rest of the pack. Everyone finally made it back to the bar and after baby-wipe baths in the toilets, fancy dresses were put back on (boys and girls you may ask?!?) and the celebrations really kicked off. Sadly, apart from PPO’s boozy cake, the bouffe had already been consumed somewhere between checkpoint 189 and 268 but a kindly someone dashed out for hot chips to warm up the runners and the English hashers immediately decided to introduce everyone else to the fantastic tradition of chip butties!
Even though it was a wedding celebration, the hash wouldn’t be the hash without a circle, so a special wedding circle took place in the Bubble Bar to wish the happy couple the best and insist on a rather special married couple down-down. Following that there was much dancing, drinking, dancing, more drinking and general merry making to ensure the wedding was celebrated in style.
I would like to list all the hashers who were there, but unfortunately somewhere between the dancing at the Bubble Bar, the OnOn at the next bar and many many pints of 8% beer, the list seems to have magically vanished.. but from memory a few things to note were 7’s fantastic dancing skills (I’m sure she had a sore head the next day), Just David’s suggestions that the happy couple consummate the marriage in the circle, thanks must go to CIAB and Petit WeeWee for the longest 6km run ever ( 8 out of 10 hashers surveyed insisted it was more like 10km), our RA – PPO for the weather (??!??!?!?!?), Princess Pussy should officially have received a down down (if we’d done a proper circle) for short cutting and hopping a ride on the beer meister’s scooter, Bender who seems to have done some intensive training and was a FRB for much of the run and other participants included : Ooo La La, WTFAMT, Moan (?!? I would like to add these names have been provided off a very dodgy drunken list), Cunning Comm (possibly Cumm?), Princess Pussy, 3x a Lady, Ma Goose, Pussy Cat, Just Anna/Anastasia, Just Lydie….
…..and finally and obviously a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the happy couple, MaBouche and Crappy Strappy!
