Summer Time , time to go outside from Paris to get some fresh air in the countryside at Herblay , direction NW.
Summer time we wrote but with no RA showing up , not a big surprise we had a mixed weather , some sunshine punctuated by short showers . Crossing the Peripherique boundaries seems also quite adventurous for a lot of hashers , especially Harriettes and only a few male representatives did turn up. Discussion was raised to find some explanations : Fete de la Musique hangover, not warm enough, women’s lib demonstration in Paris , manipulation to turn the Paris hash in either a Gay or Macho club………….. we decided to honour the tradition and our Hare Speedy gave us useful instructions to reach the B point at Mujito Bonbon’s place and most important the Beer stop in between.
After a few checks in the centre of Herblay, we rapidly reached the greenery oh the hills overhanging the River Seine with beautiful point of views, a nice Roman church not to miss . After this, we lost sight of Socks & Roses, as usual, and the limited pack ran down to reach the Seine towards the local ferry embankment.
We were quite motivated to cross the river as a Beer stop was somewhere on the island and the next bridge was a few miles away at Conflans. Peniche hitch-hiking is not really convenient but those B…..s ferry drivers were having a nap on the opposite bank. We raised hands, sung “Why are we waiting” ….. and thanks to our Hare who brought his Vuvuzela , we managed to wake them up after 20mn . Happily we had some beer and some sunshine to quench our thirst while waiting . We took the ferry and began to follow the trail in this preserved area, with a beautiful view on some mansion houses hidden in the vegetation.
Your Grand Master was the first to reach the beer stop and after a well deserved rest under the sun , we took the ferry back and got our first shower following the Seine river for quite a long On On . Then we went uphill after some hesitations letting our virgin Just Patrick to check for all the falsies. We arrived on a plateau crossing cultivated fields surrounded by poppies and “bleuets”, quite a different lanscape from our well known Bois de Boulogne and 45 mn from Paris only.
And that was the end of this countryside run and the beginning of the BBQ at Mujito’s Bonbons place . The challenge was to eat the 5kg of grilled sardines , cheese plateau and cakes kindly prepared by our hosts . But with some beer , Alsatian Pinot wine from White Socks, Portuguese wine from Speedy , we collectively took up this challenge. Just Stupid left us for a stupid invitation for another BBQ in Paris while Eqq Spur No Name and Just Patrick were taking a sip of the 15y old “Eau de vie ” from Elsa’s grandfather.
Many thanks to our hosts .
